Kiosks: The Good,
The Bad and The Boring

Kiosk report - 9.0 K Kiosks continue to represent a major portion of Summit's activities. Following the success of its first report, The Kiosk Connection, we recently published our second report; Kiosks: The Good, The Bad and The Boring. This study takes an in-depth – and often critical – look at different types of kiosks in use today and assesses how well they succeed. The report examines kiosks located both throughout the US and internationally, and highlights many vital success factors, including these:

  • The types of applications and how the information is presented
  • How easy/difficult the kiosk is to use and navigate; its robustness
  • What – if any – benefit/value is derived and is the user likely to return
  • How to attract customers, including multimedia, enclosure design and location
  • The effectiveness of a QWERTY or ABCD-style actual or touchscreen keyboard

The report groups the kiosks into five industry-related categories:

  • Public Sector
  • Health Care
  • Financial Services
  • Retail
  • Travel/Tourism
Each category contains many examples and anecdotes, as well as photographs and sample printouts/receipts. The evaluations were based upon extensive hands-on testing, interviews with users, and personal observations. Learning and benefiting from the experiences of others can help ensure that kiosk projects will be a success from the onset. Kiosks: The Good, The Bad, and The Boring is available for immediate delivery. For pricing and ordering information, please email us at info@summit-res.com.
